From Forest to Finish
Every log has more than one story to tell
How we cut a log decides the figure, the yield and the cost. Rotary, plain and quarter are not just methods — they are the design decision behind the surface.
Rotary Cut
The log spins against a blade and the veneer peels off in one wide ribbon.
Bold, broad grain with a lively, wide cathedral figure. Efficient and cost-effective, ideal for large panels and painted or dyed surfaces.
Panels · Painted faces · Large runs
Plain / Flat Cut
The log is halved and sliced parallel to the centre.
The classic cathedral and flame figure with warm, symmetrical grain. The most requested cut for furniture, doors and feature walls.
Furniture · Doors · Feature walls
Quarter Cut
The log is quartered and sliced at right angles to the growth rings.
Straight, striped grain with ray fleck in species like oak. Stable and refined, it reads calm and architectural at scale.
Panelling · Joinery · Floors
Rift Cut
A quarter-sawn variant turned to avoid the ray fleck.
Clean, linear grain without flake, delivering an even, quiet surface for high-end millwork and modern interiors.
Millwork · Cabinetry · Modern interiors
Crown Cut
A flat-sliced pattern that exposes the widest crown of the log.
The widest possible figure, delivering dramatic, sweeping movement across the sheet for statement surfaces.
Statement walls · Reception features

What partners say
“The flitch matching is the difference between a kitchen that looks assembled and one that looks designed. SilkRoad understood that from the first order.”
Operations Director
Cabinet manufacturer, Ontario
“Documentation arrived complete and the container cleared without a single question. That is worth more than a small saving elsewhere.”
Procurement Lead

“We specified three species across a 40,000 sq ft fit-out and every panel matched the approved sample. Rare, and deeply appreciated.”
